There are also federal inmate apps which offer additional services, like video visits and phone calls.
JPay lets, for instance, family and friends to transfer money directly into an inmate’s trust account, as well as videos, emails, photos, and eCards. It also lets users create personalized postcards with their own images. It's a safer and more secure alternative to regular mail.
Another popular inmate text app is GettingOut that provides "simple and reliable communication" between inmates and their loved ones. The app, available in select correctional facilities, lets inmates upload photos and send messages to their friends and families via their tablets. It costs inmates $0.25 for a message, and loved ones pay for the data that is used to read their messages (but not for explicit photos).
